Use of Peace Hall (31mar2008)

The Peace Hall meeting room holds up to 150 people and includes tables, chairs, VHS/DVD players and TV screen, CD/cassette player, a podium with amplification, a stage and kitchen facilities with hotplates, a full-size refrigerator and a convection oven. It is available for films, speakers, music, and other events that will benefit the work of our peace and justice community. There is also a projector and screen available, with a $20 charge for non-members, required when event is booked. Part of this fee will be used for equipment needs. If you are planning to use the projector with your laptop, please read page 2 of this sheet.

Income from the rental of the meeting room is a major source of financial support for the Peace and Justice Center. To help cover the costs of utilities, maintenance and projects of the Albuquerque Center for Peace & Justice, we request a donation of:
  • a) $2.00 per person for an event lasting up to three hours;
  • b) $4.00 per person for an event lasting 3 hours or more; or
  • c) ten percent (10%) of the amount collected or $50.00 (whichever seems appropriate to both parties) when the sponsor of the event charges an entrance fee.
Organizations and individuals who have not used the Peace Hall before or do not use the Peace Hall on a regular basis will provide a $20.00 cleaning deposit, to be paid one week before the event.  This deposit will be refunded after our staff confirms that the kitchen and meeting room have been left in the same or better condition as found. Should an event/meeting result in a no show, the $20.00 cleaning deposit will be forfeited.

The Peace Hall is used nearly every day. When you use the space, please leave it ready for the next group::
  • Turn off all lights, unplug all appliances used, and turn off the fans and A/V equipment, if they were used.
  • Wash and put away any dishes, cups or utensils used and do any other clean up, as needed, related to your event. Please return the chairs as you found them.
  • Do not cover or obstruct the art wall (north side) in any way.
  • Securely lock the front door (lock can be tricky, so please double check it from the outside) and exit through the back doors, which lock automatically behind you.
  • No one should remain in the building after your event, unless they are working in the Peace Center office or their rented office: CARD (SE office) and/or US UNM (SW office).
Emergency numbers are posted in the kitchen and a first aid kit is in the kitchen utility closet. The temperature in the building is regulated with an automatic thermostat. The alarm automatically sets at 11:30 pm - everyone needs to be out of the building by 11:15 pm.

To reserve the use of the Peace Hall, please contact Mary or Cecilia at 268-9557.

Thank you for your support of this community space!

Page 2 -- Notes on projector use
(with laptop computers)

To use the projector with a computer, please schedule a time to come in at least one week in advance to test if your computer will work with P&J's projector.

IF you have problems during test setup, we encourage you to immediately call our volunteer technician John 550-6524 who may be able to talk you through the process. If not, try to set up an appointment with John asap (min. 2 days advance of event).

Before connecting computer to projector, have both the computer on (fully booted into windows or mac os) and projector on.

On most laptops, simply plugging in the connector cable (after both units are booted up) then waiting while projector searches for the input signal (about 15 seconds) will be all that is needed.

If the projector does not automatically search for the input when you plug the cable into the back of it, push the INPUT button. If projector still does not read the input, use the laptop keyboard keys to switch the display output to the external port (e.g. some Dell computers use function + F4 keys). This will take 15 seconds so wait before trying another way. The function key is to the left of the spacebar and is labeled 'fn'; this in combination with an 'F' key at top of keyboard (the one with the symbol '[O]' on it) will change the output to the external port [vga]. Using the same keystroke combination again will set the display back to the laptop.

For sound from your laptop, you will need to bring your own speakers to plug into the laptop … remember to bring the power adaptor for the speakers.

About Your Event

Thank you for choosing the Peace Center!

Please note that the Peace Center (staff or volunteers) will unlock the space so make sure to let us know what time you will arrive to set up. At that time, we will show you how to lock up after your event. Keep in mind that the building is in your hands during your event.

We will be happy to give you a few suggestions in advance on how to publicize your event. You are, however, responsible for publicity. You are welcome to send your event information to our monthly newsletter calendar which means it will automatically go on the website and be included in the 4 minute GrassRoots NM community action calendar that airs on 89.9 KUNM right before Democracy Now! on Wednesdays. Please send 60 words or less to MonthlyCalendar@abqPeaceAndJustice.org .

You are welcome to drop fliers and/or posters for your event to be posted in our window and placed on the information table in the Peace Hall.

Please sign indicating that you have read these guidelines and return it to the Peace Center.
