Welcome new PAJOLA group

Coalition to Stop 30 Billion to Israel is a group of Christians, Muslims, Jews, and others who are working for peace and human rights in the Middle East. We believe that Israel's ongoing occupation and control over Palestinian territories are illegal under international law and contribute to unceasing conflict and suffering and that U.S. taxpayer-funded military aid to Israel enables a continuation of the suffering. We work to inform the public and our elected officials about how Israel violates terms of the U.S. Foreign Export Control Act and how New Mexico participates in the problem. We support other national and international projects such as the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions project that attempt to bring pressure on Israel and a change in U.S. policy. Interested individuals and groups are invited to join us. We meet at the Peace Center on the third Saturday of each month at 2pm. Contact 898-4544. The Coalition to Stop 30 Billion to Israel is happy to be joining PAJOLA and looks forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.

Veterans for Peace, Albuquerque Chapter

For more than 20 years the Albuquerque Veterans For Peace Chapter 63 has also been known as The General George C. Marshall Chapter. Recently our chapter decided by unanimous email vote to change its name. We wish to honor two cherished members and key founders of our chapter. They are pillars of the New Mexico progressive community and largely responsible for the good reputation and positive image of our group. Therefore, from now on the Albuquerque Veterans For Peace Chapter 63 will be proudly known as The Donald and Sally-Alice Thompson Chapter.

Service Learning Student at ACP&J

My name is Josh Foster. I am currently a senoir at South Valley Academy (SVA). I was introduced to the Peace Center in February of 2009. I volunteered here through the Service Learning Program at SVA. I worked on different assignments, such as shadowing some of the workers here and getting familiar with the Peace Center so that I could take more initiative in giving myself my own assignments to work on around the center.

The big project I helped organize was a weekend-long event called "Get on the Peace Train." I attended numerous planning meetings in regards to the details and arrival of Derrick Jensen, the speaker who kicked off the weekend of events. The entire event consisted of poetry, art workshops, and speeches from eco-activist Jensen. I also took the liberty in proposing an appearance of Derrick Jensen at my school right before he was scheduled to give a speech at the South Broadway Cultural Center. My peers as well as the staff at my school were very appreciative of my efforts to get a well-known author to come and answer questions about economic and environmental issues. What I found interesting during Jensen's speech was his outlook on what the "real world" really is in regards to when we get out of high school and look for careers as opposed to rolling around in the mud and living off of nature's offerings. Some of the things I learned at the Peace Center were the importance of patience while organizing an event such as "Get On The Peace Train", because I'll admit, that was one of the longest projects I have been involved with, and in order to have a successful event you can't rush or try to make it easier. In the end all of our patience paid off. I also learned about foreign affairs, local issues, international issues, and possible solutions to help improve the society we inhabit.

My future goals are to learn more about my background - the Tarahumara Indians. I am also interested in getting more familiar with Grassroots New Mexico on KUNM 89.9 fm.

A mistake occurred …

Wings Ministry

The goal of the Wings Ministry is to connect spouses, caregivers, and children of inmates with the nurturing and supporting relationships of Christian people in local churches. Wings Ministry strives to build quality relationships and strong values in teenagers and provides an arena for effective ways to rebuild assets in their lives, which can greatly reduce or prevent their involvement in at-risk behaviors. The guardians and caregivers of the inmate's children have time to meet with church and community leaders and volunteers. Inmate's families are welcomed and encouraged to find a church home. Learn more about Wings Ministry by visiting/writing them: 2270 D Wyoming Blvd. NE #130 • Albuquerque, NM 87112-2620. Or contact 291-6412; information@wingsministry.org .
