May 2009 Newsletter Contents The 2009 Peace Awards Celebration honors Membership Application	Saturday May 23rd, 7 to 9pm At Immanuel Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (please see the 2009 Peace and Justice Awards Celebration! article) The 2009 Peace Awards Celebration honors: Enlace Comunitario is a non-profit, community-based organization that provides direct services to Spanish-speaking victims of domestic violence and advocates for the rights of Latino immigrants and their children. Their holistic approach includes counseling, legal services, community education, leadership development and organizing to impact systemic change. Enlace Comunitario envisions a society where immigrants become a collective, conscientious, free, and transforming force to eradicate domestic violence and eliminate borders. Enlace's mission is to eliminate domestic violence and advance immigrants' rights. Website: www.enlacenm.org . El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos is a non-profit, grassroots organization that works together with the Latino immigrant community and its allies to advance civil and human rights. Website: www.elcentro-nm.org . Somos Un Pueblo Unido believes that every person should have freedom of movement to pursue a better life. Somos Un Pueblo Unido works to build a community that does not discriminate against people based on their national origin, that institutes humane immigration policies, and that protects the human rights of all people irrespective of where they are born or what documents they carry. http://somosunpueblounido.org . Mahassen Shukry has worked tirelessly over the years to create bridges of understanding both in the Middle East and within the Albuquerque community. She also supports people coming to the U.S. for medical or other needs.
