Help Stamp Out Hunger - by Julie Pacheco
A little over thirty years ago the food stamp program was initiated. It was successful in alleviating extreme hunger. However, today many people in the USA still suffer food insecurity. New Mexico ranks among the worst. Laurel Wyckoff, former executive director of the NM association of Food Banks, says only 60-65% of eligible New Mexicans participate in the program. One reason is that many people believe they don't qualify. Full participation in the program would not only benefit the individuals, but the entire state would enjoy an economic boost from the farmer to grocers. For information on guidelines and to apply, visit 4330 Cutler NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5pm. Some interviews can be done on the phone, call 222-9200.

Take Back Our Country! War with Iran? Not!
The weekly peace rallies on Saturdays (please see Welcome) have been raising awareness of the danger of a U.S. war against Iran since September 2006, when we devoted our final rally against Israel's war on Lebanon to opposing the possibility of a war with Iran. We have had a steady turn-out since then, but not the numbers one would expect given the gravity of such a prospect. Come help generate a critical mass on this issue.
