Another Side Truth in Military Recruiting

is working on compiling data on military recruitment practices in New Mexico. If you are a highschool aged young adult, their parent or a loved one, please call us so we can gather the data we need to forward our policy objectives: to balance the messages of military recruiters in our schools and ensure that young people have access to all the information they need to make a good decision about their future! Please call Another Side at 505-247-9694. Thanks!

Cucharitas para Lomas

Our last visit to Lomas de Poleo, a colonia outside of Juárez, to visit Paula, organizer of Fundación María Sagrario, a women's group that works for women's rights, trains, and educates women and children in the community, happened in June. Five of us represented Amnesty International UNM and Albuquerque groups, the Unitarian Church, the Peace Center, and a UNM class that raised funds for the Fundación. We arrived at Paula's, and in the words of Lisa Perry, one of the class members, "She met us in front, this small woman, this mom. There she was on the front porch armed with her notebooks of photos, ready to tell the stories that she's probably told hundreds of times to anyone who would listen. We walked to the back of her property, to meet in the new building that they had just completed. Everyone exclaimed at the completion of it..." The new building, to be used for Fundación meetings and trainings, was funded by donations to Cucharitas by the Albuquerque community-many organizations and individuals. We learned that women of several groups are planning monthly demonstrations in Juárez to keep the femicide issue alive. They welcome cross-border solidarity--your presence and the purchase of dresses to use in the demonstrations. Want to get involved? Call Cecilia at 505-268-9557.
