Moving on but staying in touch,
a letter from Maria

Dear Friends,

For the last four years I have been fortunate to work as co-coordinator of the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice. Many of you have heard by now that I will be leaving that position at the end of this month. I was offered a job in North Carolina with a nonprofit documentary film company, The Empowerment Project. What an opportunity! I could broaden my skills of media production and tell the stories of our struggles, learning from a team who receives not only grassroots acclaim but mainstream as well, winning the Oscar for Best Documentary with their film, The Panama Deception, about the 1989 US invasion of Panama. I visited NC in mid-June, but as I flew back into Albuquerque and the plane finally descended below the clouds, I could see our beautiful Sandia Mountains and my shoulders relaxed -- I was home.

I have decided to decline the job offer at this time, but I will still leave my position at the P&J. However, I am pleased to say I will still be part of our amazing community.

Just before I made my trip east, I received a phone call from the New Tudor Foundation, to which Another Side Truth in Military Recruiting Project had applied for funding. They informed me that Another Side had been awarded the full amount of our request ($10,000!) and that additional funding was available if we needed it (Thank you, New Tudor!!). So, I will be maintaining my connection to P&J work as I continue to be coordinator of Another Side. And, I'll also continue to be part of Indy Media TV, airing Friday nights on Ch. 27 ( no cable? www.quote-unquote.org ).

Dear friends of mine (and yours, too), had offered their home to give me a going away party on July 28. Although I am not leaving NM at this time, I still want to celebrate with you the years of great work we've done together at the P&J Center as well as my recent graduation from graduate school. Please join me! Call me at the Peace and Justice Center for the party details. And thank you for all you've shared with me over the years.

In solidarity,
maria santelli
