Albuquerque Cultural Conference opens with songs by the Raging Grannies at 6:30pm on Friday in the lobby of the Kimo Theater (Albuquerque). The Grannies will be followed by several poets. DÌa de los San Patricios will be an afternoon celebration of Mexican and Irish cultures, including live Irish and Mexican music and dance, food, a film excerpt, and a panel discussion. Presenting in both English and Spanish, performers will address life, love, war, loss, and the resiliency of two cultures that at different times in their histories have had to endure challenging events. The Impact of "Belief in UFOs" is a public presentation by Norio Hayakawa, a long-time UFO researcher specializing in Area 51 in Nevada and widespread claims about the existence of Dulce underground base in New Mexico. He will speak on why a segment of the population keeps holding on to its "belief in UFOs" (despite the apparent lack of physical, irrefutable "scientific evidence"). Eighty-year-old Jimmy Mirikitani survived the trauma of WWII internment camps, Hiroshima, and homelessness by creating art. But when 9/11 threatens his life on the New York City streets and a local filmmaker brings him to her home, the two embark on a journey to confront Jimmy's painful past. An intimate exploration of the lingering wounds of war and the healing powers of friendship and art, this documentary won the Audience Award at its premiere in the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. A press conference officially the report *Locked Out: NM Housing Crisis Impacts All State Legislative Districts.* is taking place at Title 1 Homelessness Project (1730 University Bldv. SE - Albuquerque) The report, written by the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, ranks legislative districts on housing affordability and shows that across the state - in both rural and urban areas - low-income working families, people with disabilities and senior citizens cannot find affordable housing.
