In the spirit of promoting tolerance and human rights, the international bi-lingual Anne Frank: A History for Today exhibit is being brought to Coronado Center (Albuquerque). The exhibit furthers the legacy of Anne Frank and educates both young and old about the consequences of intolerance. Admission: Free - Donations are appreciated. "The Politics of the Cuban Political Refugee Program" is is the topic of a talk being presented by Lisa Burns in the LAII (801 Yale NE - Albuquerque). Burns will outline the basic financial and administrative services provided to political refugees primarily from Cuba but also from countries including Burma, Bhutan, Congo, Iraq, Haiti, Nepal, and Tanzania. During her presentation, Burns will discuss the financial, bureaucratic, and social challenges faced by Cubans in the Albuquerque area. Finally, Burns questions the efficacy of the U.S. refugee program and the government's (in)adherence to international human rights law by highlighting the distinct differences between the U.S. government's treatment of Cuban and Haitian refugees. People Before Profit Film & Lecture Series presents Flow, which investigates what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century - the world water crisis. Interviews with scientists and activists intelligently reveal the rapidly building crisis, at both the global and human scale, and the film introduces many of the governmental and corporate culprits behind the water grab while begging the question: "Can anyone really own water?" Beyond identifying the problem, Flow also gives viewers a look at the people and institutions providing practical solutions to the water crisis and those developing new technologies, which are fast becoming blueprints for a successful global and economic turnaround. A vigil for 3month old baby girl at 300 NE San Mateo in front of CYFD office. Our society and the systems that are suppose to protect instead failed this tiny precious baby. This helpless infant was returned to her monster parents even though they had tortured her. She had over 20 broken bones in her tiny little body and cuts and bruises on her face. It took OVER 20 phone calls from Joy Junction before she was rescued. This is a heart breaking story that is repeated far too often. Please join us; dress in pink or black. 2010 walk to the United Nations for the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) - Calling on all Anti-Nuclear Activists and people who care about the future of Mother Earth to join us on a walk from the Y-12 nuclear weapons facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to the United Nations in New York for the NPT Review Conference. We can live in a world powered by renewable energy, but to achieve this we need to work together and demand that our governments listen to us instead of being bought off by the big fossil fuel industries and the military industrial complex. We need to have a massive presence at this NPT review conference in 2010 and are asking everyone to join us on the walk for a day, a week, or the entire way. We are asking artists to create a piece of Art Against Violence: A Prayer for Juárez and West Mesa - A Sculptural Installation. The Center for Peace and Justice is hosting this community project at the Center. Please join us for an afternoon in creativity honoring the lost children and women of Juárez, Mexico and Albuquerque's West Mesa. We invite you to bring recycled and natural materials to help build a life-size sculpture of the feminine figure to be shown as part of this project during March 2010. A memorial service for Maisha Baton, poet, playwright and historian, will be held at UNM SUB-ballroom (Albuquerque). The program will feature local poets reading from Maisha's works. Baton wrote plays about African American women in the Southwest in addition to contributing research and documentation on blacks in New Mexico.
