Prayer-action for peace at the corner of Diamond Drive and West Jemez Road in Los Alamos with the Trinity Nuclear Abolitionists. Enjoy an intimate evening with Sister Helen Prejean at the home of Trish Steindler (10 Hondo Lane - Santa Fe - phone for directions or more information). Wine, beer and a light supper will be served. The suggested donation is $100 but the main goal is to have people attend and meet Sr Helen, the real life heroine portrayed by Susan Sarandon in the film "Dead Man Walking." Movie Night at the Taos Peace House (801 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte - Taos). Documentary of the 1995 International Food Not Bombs Gathering in San Francisco. The ten-day event was held during the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The video shows the many actions, protests, workshops and the birth of Indymedia. You are invited to join in a ceremony of ringing a Shinto shrine bell - creating a kind of space prayer bridge with the Japanese people. At 8:15 AM on August 6th in Hiroshima, the Japanese ring a bell for world peace at the moment of the detonation of the bomb over their city. This is 5:15 PM on August 5th in New Mexico. You are invited to bring a heart stone to join the other heart stones around our Tree of Peace (Capitol Round House - Santa Fe) - where the ceremony takes place - that was planted there on Peace Day a few years ago. You are invited to also bring songs or poems to share, and your intention to find your own way to be an ever greater vehicle for the realization of world peace. Donna Chamberlain, who's son - Karl - was killed by the State of Texas on June 11 of this year, will be with us to speak about the loss of her son. Organizing how to systematically monitor local newspaper, television, radio and internet news is the topic of the Media Watchdog Group. The collected data will be used to encourage news organizations to expand who and what they cover. "Will journalism be done for you or to you?" was one of the many meaningful questions asked at the National Conference For Media Reform in Minneapolis. Charles returned, determined to do his part to clean up the mess and help save democracy by reforming the mainstream press, and he invites you to join him as a founding creator of this new force. Passive Heating and Cooling class with Steve Baer at Zomeworks. $15 covers a tour of Steve's inventions since the 1960s. Steve will lead us through the evolution of his designs, including the skymeter, a tool for judging the potential for cooling by night sky radiation, and heating with bare unglazed collectors.
