Pat Humphries and Sandy O, the East coast political duo known as Emma's Revolution, perform a Benefit Concert for Somos L@s Otr@s at First Unitarian Church (Carlisle at Comanche - Albuquerque). Somos L@s Otr@s, a new project of the Peace Center, uses music and theater to bring communities together. A fun Benefit Dance Party for TARIRO: Hope and Health for Zimbabwe's Orphans takes place at North 4th Theater/VSA Arts (4904 4th St NW - Albuquerque). KUBATANA MARIMBA ENSEMBLE and WAGOGO will be playing traditional and contemporary music from Zimbabwe. A History of Disbelief, Part III, The Final Hour. Atheists & Freethinkers of New Mexico. The history of disbelief concludes with the ideas of Thomas Paine, the revolutionary studies of geology, and the evolutionary theories of Darwin. Join a contigent of Albuquerque folks to go up to Santa Fe to talk with Representative Edward Sandoval and other Albuquerque representatives about SB 160 which would prohibit cities from passing a real estate transfer tax. Many local communities throughout the U.S. have used a real estate transfer tax to fund affordable housing. SB 160 takes away local control and removes a potential tool that communities can use to fund affordable housing. We will leave first thing in the morning and should be back by early afternoon. People before Profit film: Un Poquito de Tanta Verdad - A Little Bit of So Much Truth (2007, 90 minutes). In the summer of 2006, a broad-based, non-violent, popular uprising exploded in Oaxaca. Tens of thousands of school teachers, housewives, indigenous people, health workers, farmers, and students took 14 radio stations and one TV station into their own hands, using them to organize, mobilize, and ultimately defend their grassroots struggle for social, cultural, and economic justice. In Spanish (with subtitles in English). Raffle of items of Oaxacan clothing & crafts to benefit Coordinadora de Mujeres Oaxaquenas, one of several groups in the struggle committed to peaceful change in Oaxaca. General membership meeting of Compassion & Choices, with speaker Roland Halpern, Director of Community Relations for Compassion and Choices. Roland will talk about developments and programs in End-Of-Life Choices, both around the country and here in New Mexico. He will also explain a C&C program called "Client Services." "War, Incorporated: Private, Unaccountable and Profitable" is the title of the lecture being presented by Michele Chwastiak (an associate professor of accounting in the Anderson School of Management Department) in the Willard Room of Zimmerman Library (UNM - Albuquerque).

Her talk will explore the benefits of privatizing war in Iraq to the political and economic elite and how it has created new opportunities for war profiteering. She will discuss how stresses between increasing profit and serving the nation have impacted the conduct of the Iraq war in a negative way.

People before Profit film: Rokkasho Rhapsody. In 2004, Rokkashomura, a small village in northern Japan, saw the completion of a reprocessing plant where plutonium is extracted from spent nuclear fuel. The village is faced with environment and public health threats - low level release of radiation and potential plant accidents, but the plant could improve the village's economy since revenue from fishing and agriculture are no longer adequate. People face stark choices about the health of their families and the well-being of their community. Guest Speaker: Floy Barrett.
