Dear Members of the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice:
The Coordinating Council is requesting your presence Saturday, June 7, at noon for a meeting about the direction of the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice.
CONTEXT: Last August we had a meeting to discuss our mission and re-establish our purpose as a hub of action against imperialist wars and their weapons. At that meeting, we also discussed the role of the services for the unhoused, and discussed working with volunteers to help shift these services towards more sustainable sites with more resources.
Since then, many groups and individuals across Albuquerque, including members of the Center for Peace and Justice have worked to organize another space that better accommodates these services. However, these efforts have not yet resulted in the acquisition of another permanent space. Since last August’s meeting, the center has continued to be a hub for activist-oriented organizations and movements, while also continuing services that help with food and clothing for the unhoused.
OUR ASK: We are now hoping for input regarding how to move forward given the growing demands for services to the unhoused along with stepping up the fight against fascism at home, stopping the genocide in Gaza and the plans for a war with China.
The Coordinating Committee is asking for your presence on Saturday, June 7, at 12pm. In particular we ask that you send your thoughts ahead of time, on the following points that we will vote on (choose one):
A - The Peace Cafe to continue at The Peace Center indefinitely at The Peace Cafe's discretion.
B - Support the Peace Cafe in relocating within 12 months to a better facility. The Peace Center would help in the relocation.
C - Negotiate a date certain for relocation within calendar year 2025 with operators of The Peace Cafe.
We look forward to seeing you on the 7th to vote on each one of these points. We also hope you would consider sending your thoughts beforehand. You can do so by filling out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdhJ5mkmfktBsKhxVBqSEVEhaIBECeybasAUSOUO-ib6QshdA/viewform
A plea for folks to work the Front Desk - interested volunteers should call the Peace Center at 505-268-9557 and leave a message for Nancy Harmon, who is our Volunteer Coordinator.
We also need a new white dry erase board (or two) pretty badly. The one we have has a worn out surface now, and doesn't clean well. It's a Quartet 4'x6’ board, which is the ideal size. Other items on our wish list can be found at the bottom of the "Donate" page on this website.
